"I grew up in Southwest Virginia had an interest in helping others.  My career began after college in local government in Administration in 1988.  While pursuing my career, I began teaching fitness classes in 1990 at a local gym after they trained me.  That's when I knew I wanted to expand my knowledge and help others.  I am very passionate and have a special interest in working with the Older Adult population.  So, through my 20s, I obtained Group Fitness, Mat/Pilates, CPR/AED, and Personal Trainer Certifications.  I trained clients who had mobility issues, arthritis, carpel tunnel, knee, hip, back, and shoulder issues.  In my 30s and 40s, I continued my fitness education and obtained Zumba, Barre, Yoga, Strength for Older Adults, Aquatic, Basic Water Rescue, Tai Chi certifications while still training clients in a group and one-on-one setting.  After teaching fitness part-time for years, an opportunity came up, and I accepted a full-time Fitness Coordinator position in 2007 for local government.  This position was a true blessing, and I learned even more why I wanted to train the Older Adult population.  I was able to attend annual fitness conventions in Baltimore, MD, teach strength training using resistance equipment and free weights to Older Adults, and work with partnering companies, i.e. Health Dept. and dieticians to obtain a grant for obesity for adults and seniors.  This grant won an award in 2007 from the VA Recreation and Parks Society.  This program has continued to be successful.  In 2010, I was stricken with a spinal infection and was told by a doctor that I would never teach fitness classes again.  Being determined, I rehabbed myself back to health using the knowledge and experience I had gained over the years.  In six months, I was doing all I previously did, even though part of my spine had deteriorated.  In 2013, I sustained a torn hamstring at the insertion, and I continued to teach classes.  Again, rehabbing myself, no surgery was necessary.  Exercise is miraculous!  In 2021, I retired from local government and continued to teach part-time fitness classes for local gyms throughout Virginia and Tennessee.  In my 50s, I have furthered my education and obtained Silver Sneakers and additional Yoga Certifications.  Just recently, I became a Certified Personal Trainer with NASM.  I truly believe doing exercise on land or in water on a regular basis with guidance and the proper form offers preventative care and longevity.  If I can help you in any way make your daily life better, please reach out to me."
